One of the best things about fall is watching the leaves change. The warmth and vibrance of red and orange all over the trees brings a special level of comfort that you can only find in Autumn. If you’re looking for a fun, socially-distanced way to take in the fall beauty, here are a few spots you can travel to for a day and just relax, take pictures or explore.
Mistletoe State Park
Located roughly 20 miles outside of Evans, Georgia, Mistletoe is a popular camping and hiking spot in Appling. Plan a day hike through the woods and bask in the beauty of the colorful leaves. Find a spot near the lake for a picture-perfect view of the fall trees over the glimmering water.
Providence Canyon State Park
If you’re up for a 4 hour drive, travel to Providence Canyon State Park in Lumpkin, Georgia. Known as the “Little Grand Canyon”, Providence Canyon boasts a gorgeous pink sand backdrop to make for the best pictures, especially when colorful fall leaves are mixed in. There are 2 picnic shelters at the park for lunch breaks, campsites if you want an overnight stay and a museum for shopping and exploring history.
Greenville, South Carolina
Greenville is about 3 hours away from the Augusta area and is a great way to explore the beauty and nature of fall without necessarily having to lace up your hiking boots. Falls Park in the heart of downtown has a bridge that crosses the beautiful Reedy River and is the perfect spot to take in the beauty of fall. Grab coffee or lunch from one of the small shops downtown and enjoy it in the park. Don’t forget a cozy sweater for chillier days!
Asheville, North Carolina
Load up the car for a roughly 3 hour drive from Augusta for the perfect mixture of mountain and city adventures in Asheville. The Blue Ridge Parkway lines the Southern Appalachians and gives breathtaking views. It is known as America’s Favorite Scenic Drive and has definitely earned the title. Explore the Parkway and then spend an evening in downtown Asheville for a great dinner and glass of wine.
Having fun this fall doesn’t necessarily require a large amount of money or extensive travel. Check out these locations and don’t forget to snap some photos for a good 2020 memory!
