The Best Outdoor Activities in March

The arrival of spring means warmer weather, beautiful blooms and fun times spent outdoors. Welcome the new season by stepping outside and trying these activities:

  • Create a leprechaun garden. This is a St. Patrick’s Day themed twist on a classic fairy garden, where gnomes and leprechauns can be used in place of dainty fairy figurines. Instead of flowers, use shamrocks and gold coins.
  • Adopt a caterpillar. There are many online stores to find caterpillar kits that include live caterpillars such as this one. It is a great educational activity that will also add beauty to your yard once the caterpillars grow into beautiful butterflies!
  • Map out ideas for your spring garden. Decide which flowers and plants you’d like and shop at your local nursery or garden center for everything you need to get started.
  • Hike to a waterfall. There are many parks and trails to choose from that boast beautiful waterfall views during the perfect weather.
  • Go on a nature scavenger hunt. This easy activity can be done anywhere depending on what you are looking for. The Homemade Heather blog has helpful information and ideas on what to collect.
  • Paint stepping stones for your garden. This is a fun way to enjoy the outdoors while allowing kids to participate as well. Come up with unique designs or have everyone paint their name and a self-portrait on a stone! It gives a personal touch to otherwise boring stones.
  • Set a hammock up outside and enjoy a book.
  • Build a bonfire in the evening. Spring still has chilly nights typically, so invite some friends over to roast s’mores and enjoy each other’s company.
  • Have a picnic in your backyard or at a local park. Grab your biggest blanket, pack a charcuterie or grab takeout from your favorite restaurant, and enjoy a different view for lunch.
  • Visit a golf course. Now is the time to do so, especially if you are in the CSRA as we gear up for the big tournament. Tee off with friends or enjoy a solo adventure before it gets too hot outside.
  • Create sidewalk art. You can do this in your driveway, along sidewalks in the neighborhood or at the park. Grab as many different chalk colors as you can and channel your inner artist for a vibrant piece of outdoor work.

No matter how you choose to spend time outdoors this month, remember to apply sunscreen! Now go out and make new spring memories.
